The Burnley Bouldering Walls first opened in May 2006 and are voluntarily run and maintained by The Victorian Climbing Club.
Built within McConchie Reserve (an inner city reserve managed by Parks Victoria) and located under the CityLink/Monash Freeway, the walls are one of Melbourne’s best kept secrets.
The best way to locate the Burnley Bouldering Wall is either by car down Coppin St, Richmond, go to the end and turn left into Barkly Avenue. Pass through the Parks Victoria entranceway and park you vehicle. Wander then down the gravel driveway towards the Yarra river, turn right and walk across the floating pontoon bridge, and after approximately 100m you’re there.
We stumbled by the walls by bicycle riding the Yarra Trail toward the city (Burnley side). When you find yourself opposite Herring Island, and in between Coppin St and Mary St on the map, you’re there.
