Get ready to celebrate all things Australian with a day of beer, barbequing and Triple J’s hottest 100 beats on the Common Man Lawn, South Wharf.
From 12pm on January 26, this riverside space will be transformed into a ‘true blue’ piece of turf, jam-packed with fun Australia Day activities for the whole family to enjoy.
Start off with a snag-making masterclass by Head Chef Ivan Pinteric as guests learn how to cook the perfect ‘snag’ from the best cuts of meat, how to grind meat, which herbs and seasonings to use, and how to fill natural sausage casings worthy of this special day. Complete the sausage making session with a gourmet sausage sit down lunch and beer prepared by Common Man, before taking your own culinary creations home.
Guests can take it one step further in the Man vs. Snag sausage eating contest, and battle it out to be crowned the winner. Contestants will have one minute to eat as many snags as they can, with eight being the current world record. It wouldn’t be Australia Day without a bit of friendly competition! First prize winners will take out a $500 bar tab, while the second and third prize winners receive a $200 dining voucher and a $50 bar tab.
Or simply enjoy the public holiday with a seat in the sun as the tennis plays out on the big screen and Triple J’s hottest 100 countdown blazes across speakers all day. The Common Man will cook up an Aussie feast with their barbeque, spit roast and smoked meat while offering Dog Day Beer and Lillet Garden cocktail specials.
There will also be face painting for kids and the whole family to get in on.
It’s no secret that Australians are ready to bring out the green and gold for this celebratory day, so come together this Australia Day and celebrate the only way we know how.
The Snag Making Class is from 10.30am – 12.30pm and is $45 per person. Those looking to get involved in the Man vs. Snag sausage eating competition must register at www.thecommonman.com.au.
