The iconic Canberra Balloon Spectacular will return to the capital for the 30th year this autumn. The Canberra Balloon Spectacular is the only event in the world where balloons can fly in such close proximity to houses of Government and buildings of national significance.
Pilots begin inflating their balloons on the lawns of Old Parliament House each day, before ascending into the sky and creating a picturesque backdrop for Canberra’s national attractions. The 2016 Canberra Balloon Spectacular will also include some special shape balloons from across the globe adding a sense of novelty to the stunning setting each day.
Spectators on the ground will be treated to an experience of the senses with a flurry of colour, sound and movement, complemented by the delicious hot breakfast available for purchase from the Belconnen Lions Club, so be sure to be up early not to miss the action on the ground or in the air at this year’s Balloon Spectacular.
Balloons take between 15-30mins to inflate, depending on their size. Inflation usually commences at 6.15am with the majority of the balloons launched prior to 7.00am.
*Please note: ballooning is completely weather dependent. The decision to fly will be made at 6am daily.
